"For true love is the burden that will carry me back home, carry me with the memories of the beauty I have known."
From "Ulysses" by Josh Garrels

Have you ever found yourself wishing you had a little more time to discuss and reflect on some of the ideas you hear from The Anselm Society? Then you'll love joining us for Philosophy by the Fireside.

Philosophy by the Fireside is a casual guided discussion among friends gathered around a backyard fire. That means you don't need to have read or even have substantial familiarity with philosophy -- just curiosity and an interest in exploring ideas. The evenings will be led by a facilitator, who will introduce a topic, provide background, and guide the ensuing discussion. Recommendations for optional readings will be made available ahead of time, along with a topical outline.

For our first meeting, the topic will be:

Beauty that Guides Us Home

Have you ever felt an ache, a longing that wouldn't quite let you go? Has it echoed in your favorite stories or songs, and led you deeper into your faith?

We're going to explore "sacramentalism" --- diving deeper into the ideas found in Lewis's planet trilogy, Hans Boersma's Heavenly Participation, and in Plato's philosophy of forms. How does God reveal Himself to us in that beauty that will not let us go?
