The Enchanted Table: Coming Together Across Time and Space

April 27-May 7, 2020

A Call for Art:

The Anselm Society, in conjunction with its Imagination Redeemed Conference, invites artists to participate in the conference’s annual visual art exhibition—this year on a digital platform. The theme of the 2020 gallery, The Enchanted Table: Coming Together Across Time and Space, is derived from this year’s conference theme: Reclaiming the Lost Tools of Enchantment. As we explore these Lost Tools, we will discover how great stories and great art connect with the Great Story...and your story.

As visual artists, one of our greatest Lost Tools is relationships. Though we often think of artists as lone individuals creating novel messages, this notion is largely rooted in our modern interpretation of the artist. For the greater part of time and across many cultures, art has been produced within a network of relationships and stories relying both on contemporary and historical sources. Guilds, apprenticeship, and mentorship have connected artists within the same socio-temporal space, and a rich tradition of iconography, themes, and compositional types have forged links between artists that transcend time and space.  Additionally, artists have found inspiration in the works of their co-creators—writers, musicians, film-makers, etc—as these like-minded individuals interpret the great stories based on goodness, truth, and beauty in their own media.

The Anselm Society seeks submissions that emphasize relationships between visual artists and other co-creators, whether within the same time and space or outside it.

Submissions Categories:

1) Art done in collaboration with other contemporary artists/co-creators that explores a great historical theme or story explored by artists (extant creations or new art created using social distancing only, please)

2) Art influenced by historical works of art. These works can be inspired by historical works of art or interpret them in an edifying fashion. Replicas of historical works of art will not be accepted.

3) Art meditating on or exploring the type of cross-disciplinary creative community described above.
